Magical Money   (Activity Instructions)      2 Years      3 Years      4 Years

Number of players: 2-6
Print off one game board (per up to 6 players) (link below)
Print off one full set of game cards. (per up to 6 players) (link below)
Get real coins to use as rewards. One penny, nickel, dime and quarter per player.
Give each student a plain piece of paper rolled up into a long tube. Tape the tube. This will be a magical wand. Each student can color his wand.
Print off one copy of the Magical Phrases per game.

Teachers: Have students get into groups of 6 at most. Give each student a game card page and have him color. You could give the student with the penny cards a brown crayon, and the students with the other coins, grey crayons. The student with the dollar cards can use a green crayon. This will teach them the color of money. Cut out all cards after coloring. Put 9 of the same coin-cards, with 9 dollar-cards and shuffle each stack. (example: 9 penny cards with 9 dollar bill cards in one stack) You should then have 4 stacks of 18 cards per stack. Take each coin/dollar stack and place the stack of cards on the appropriate square on the game board. The coin in the card stack should match the coin on the square. Take the real coins and place all pennies next to the game board penny square, do the same for the other coins. There should be one, coin of each type, per player.

Parents: Give each player a coin card sheet to color. Give the player with the penny sheet a brown crayon and players with the other coin sheets a grey crayon. The player with the dollar bill card sheet should have a green crayon. This will teach the color of money. Cut out the cards. Take the real coins and place all pennies next to the game board penny square, all nickels next to the nickel square and do the same for the other coins. There should be one, coin of each type, per player.

Play Instructions: The youngest player starts. Have him take his magic wand and wave it over the penny square. Have him say the penny magical phrase listed on the magical phrase sheet, then tap the penny card pile with his wand. If a penny is on top he wins a penny and should take one of the real pennies next to the board. If a dollar card is on top he doesn’t get a penny and has to wait until his next turn to try again. Then the next player does the same. Once a player gets a penny, on his next turn he moves to the nickel square and repeats the process. Players take turns doing this, trying to win each coin. They go from the penny, nickel, dime then quarter. The adult should discuss the worth of each coin before playing and show the players each coin and dollar. The first player to win the final coin (the quarter) wins the game. The winner then must place his coins in front and tell the group what the name of each coin is.

How to win: The first player to have all of his apple pieces on the game board is the winner.
