Print off one story sheet for the reader. (link below)
Print off one set of pictures per listener. (link below)
Give each listener one blank piece of paper.
Teachers: Give each listener one sheet of 9 pictures. Have each listener color the sheet. Cut out around the 9 pictures. Have each listener place his pictures in front of him. Have each listener place his blank piece of paper in front of him, next to the pictures.
Parents: Same as above.
Reading Instructions: Explain that this is an active story and that all listeners are to listen carefully. When they hear the name of one of the pictures in front of them they are to place that picture on the blank piece of paper. Each listener will be building the story board as the story is read. Begin reading the story, and after each line, make sure the listeners have placed the correct pictures on the board. Provide help, with choosing the correct pictures, when needed. When the story is over you can discuss thunder storms and other things that make them scared, and things they can do to make them less afraid.
